Regattas In The Abacos (RITA)
For the first time since Dorian decimated the Abacos in 2018, RITA has returned. 24 JUN through 1 JUL. I have heard about this event from many club members over the years. Always described as a great time. My favorite story is about Michael Carrington's son Freddy taking the old Susimi with a handful of his buds and nothing but cans of black beans and beer on board. (Michael took his new boat; Susimi X). (Note: Susimi was sighted this week in Tahiti on its way to NZ!)
This year we are going to RITA for the first time. RITA is the perfect blend of cruising and racing. In addition to the journey over and back, the event is five days of racing spread over seven days and four destinations. Marsh Harbor, Hopetown, Great Guana, and Green Turtle. Every night has a sponsored social event at a different venue. Some racing strategies call for making your competition sail with bad hangovers. Several club boats will be there (Catabatic, Contrails, and Lady Grey) and some club members are going on other boats. This blog will serve as our float plan. So if we are not back by 5 JUL please send a rescue St. Bernard with a keg of rum on his collar. Otherwise, standby for part two next month.
