Will sail for a sandwich
Old Bahama Bay Marina at West End Grand Bahama is a welcome stop after making the 10-14 hour crossing of the Florida Straits, aka Atlantic Ocean, North American Ocean, Bermuda Triangle.
West End, Old Bahama Bay Marina is a pleasant place to clear into the Bahamas. The marina is well-run and laid back. The slips are pretty well maintained by Bahamian standards. The staff is friendly and helpful. The customs and immigration staff are helpful and kind even though they deal with a large quantity of travelers from all over the world.
What is a real treat besides hot showers and a swimming pool is the restaurant. In our opinion, one of the best sandwiches we have ever had in the Bahamas is available at the restaurant. The grilled cheese fried grouper sandwich is the star of the menu. Gooey melted cheese, perfectly fried grouper on toasted Bahama bread. Try it and if you are feeling guilty, order a salad as a side. We tried the grilled cheese fried conch sandwich and found it didn’t match up with the grouper version. If you are a hot sauce fan, add a dash or two of hot sauce to the already yummy sauce and you are in foodie heaven.
